Abstract:
The Symposium on the Effects of Ionizing Radiation on the Nervous System was organized by the I.A.E.A. and took place in Vienna, 5-9 June 1961. About 70 experts in radiation biology from some 20 countries attended the Symposium and the topics they discussed were radiation effects on the peripheral nervous sytem, central nervous system (electrophysiological changes, higher nervous functions and behavioural studies, changes in the developing embryo biochemical and histochochemical changes), the autonomic nervous system, and the role of the nervous system in radiation syndrome.
