Abstract: The stability and translation efficiency of many messenger RNAs is regulated by microRNAs (miRNAs), which exert their effects through associated Argonaute proteins. In this issue, Zhu, Zhang, and colleagues reveal that plants also exploit miRNA binding by Argonautes as a sequestering mechanism that prevents miRNAs from fulfilling their normal roles.
