Abstract: A textile-based hollow fiber (taxon) MRI phantom (TABIP) is used to assess the ability of diffusion MR imaging (dMRI) to accurately estimate taxon crossing angles. A parametric pattern of known taxon crossings and taxon bundle sizes was manufactured in the TABIP phantom, it was scanned on a 3T scanner and data was reconstructed with a constrained spherical deconvolution algorithm. 21 repeated scans were collected to enhance SNR. Taxon crossing angles were estimated, and it is shown that crossing angles of 45° and higher can be accurately recovered and that angle measurement reliability decreases with bundle size.
