Abstract: The magnetostriction technique is shown to be a valuable tool
for the study of flux matter. Measurements of a classical type-
II superconductor (NbTi) exposed new data on a range of topics
of current interest, including the physics of the critical
state, the peak effect, and memory of the vortex matter both in
the vicinity and far away from the peak effect region. (C) 2002
