Abstract:
Electron-spin-echo experiments at 95 GHz and 1.2 K reveal that the triplet excitation of a single crystal of C60 is delocalized over either a pair or a chain of C60 molecules along 〈110〉 directions. Two distinct triplet species have been observed in a one-to-one ratio which verifies the proposed 2 a0 face-centred cubic superstructure of the crystal at low temperature. The C60 molecules on the two sublattices differ by a rotation over 60° about 〈111〉 directions.
