 Abstract: In this study, we measured volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in human inhaled and exhaled air with and without exposure to ozone using a proton transfer reaction time of flight mass spectrometer (PTR-ToF-MS). Skin oil ozonolysis products were measured in exhalation and showed lower levels compared to inhaled air, indicating uptake by the human respiratory system. This unique dataset can help to better understand human exposure to ozone and products of ozone-induced chemistry, and thereby provide the information needed for more accurate ozone exposure risk assessments.
