 Abstract: Located close to the Senegalese coastline of the Atlantic Ocean (14.317° N, 16.933° W), Tiémassas is one of the westernmost Middle Stone Age (MSA) sites in Africa (Fig. 1). The site lies close to the northernmost extension of the Guinean mangrove belt. A small seasonal stream cuts through the gently sloping deposits at the locality, resulting in a slowly eroding surface. The site took its name from an intermittent river flowing in the immediate vicinity. The site had seen multiple phases of investigation, with the most recent one (that began in 2016) involving excavation, sedimentological studies, chronometric dating and lithic analysis.
