 Abstract: In recent years a growing interest of firms in the transfer of technologically usable results from university research can be observed in the F.R.G. In the first part of the paper a short account of available empirical evidence for this is given. In the second part a general theoretical model is developed which tries to explain the intensification of transfer activities as the result of a specific auto-dynamical causality connecting firms and universities. In the third part the role of political guidance as a catalyzing force for this societal auto-dynamic is discussed.
