Abstract: On May 5th 2023, the World Health Organisation declared that COVID-19 does not constitute a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) anymore, advising that it is time to transition to long-term management of the COVID-19 pandemic. In these three years of the COVID-19 PHEIC in Europe, almost 250 million infections have been confirmed, and more than 2 million people have died from the disease—this is more than the population of Vienna.
