Abstract: During domestication, dogs have evolved human-like skills for functioning effectively in human societies. Findings of comparative
psychology have shed light on the question of what skills dogs were selected for during domestication - namely skills that made
them better able to communicate and cooperate with humans. However, if we want to understand the whole process of dog
domestication, there are many compelling questions. Here we propose three lines of inquiry that should be considered- the
starting point, process, and outcomes of domestication. To answer these questions, we need an interdisciplinary approach in
which scientists from the fields of archaeology, genetics, anatomy, psychology, sociology, and anthropology work together.
