Abstract: This thesis focuses on the spectra of different charge states of highly charged lead, which are analyzed using an electron beam ion trap (FLASH-EBIT) at the Max-Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics. The objective is to determine the energy of the metastable state 2H11/2 in Pb XLII, the upper level for a potential extreme ultraviolet (XUV) clock transition more precisely. The energy of this metastable state was first determined in [1] to be 31.2(8)nm The lead atoms injected in the EBIT are collisionally ionized by the electron beam, which can produce different charge states by varying the kinetic energy of the electrons. The energy at which Pb41+ is visible was determined, and a longer measurement was conducted at this energy to get more defined line positions and to be able to distinguish weak lines from the background. The results were compared to theoretical calculations using the Flexible Atomic Code and ambit. The energy of the metastable state determined in this thesis is 32.044± 0.010(stat) ± 0.011(sys) eV and is in agreement with the experimental and theoretical values from previous measurements.
