Zusammenfassung:
In recent years, the field of topological band theory has experienced a rapid and substantial growth. This sudden development reflects in the discovery of a plethora of new topological materials via an effective analysis performed within the framework of topological quantum chemistry formalism. In this chapter, we describe band theory from the perspective of group theory and topological quantum chemistry. In order to facilitate the achievement of a deep understanding of the framework, we illustrate the application of the formalism via two practical examples. Additionally, we introduce fundamental concepts of band topology, including the Berry phase, Wannier functions and the topological obstruction to charge localization. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.
