 Abstract: The aim of the work described in this thesis was to investigate whether the currently reported methodological resolution of fMRI corresponds to the intrinsic physiological limit of the technique, or whether it is possible by combining optimised measurement strategies with a detailed knowledge of neurovascular coupling to improve attainable spatial specificity and temporal accuracy still further.
