Abstract: A simple model of a surface chemical reaction with a promoter interacting with one of the reactants is considered. We show that an interplay between the reaction, interactions, and diffusion of species in this system can result in the development of periodic nonequilibrium spatial patterns. The instability leading to such patterns is analyzed, and numerical investigations of nonlinear pattern formation are performed.
