Abstract:
We present experimental studies and simulations on pattern formation during bulk CO electrooxidation on Pt ring electrodes. Profiles of the electrode potential were recorded with a potential probe. Two types of stationary, self-organized patterns were observed under potentiostatic conditions in different potential ranges. The first type of patterns can be reproduced with a simple reaction-migration model, and the corresponding instability is shown to be a Turing-type bifurcation. The large amplitude structures are related to more complex chemical reactions that occur at higher voltage.
