Abstract: We present our results for resonant Auger emission after deep inner shell electron impact excitation. A full ab initio relativistic distorted wave approximation is applied where intermediate coupling between the different configuration state functions of the resonantly excited states and exchange interaction with the continuum has been taken into account. While several investigations have been published on electron impact excitation of the outer electronic shells, for a subsequent Auger emission, we present, to our knowledge for the first time, data on alignment and orientation for deep inner shell excitation. Opposite to the case of photoexcitation, the calculation of alignment and orientation is no longer purely analytic but is a complicated function of the electron impact energy. As example we consider the angular distribution and spin polarization of the resonantly excited Ar*(2p4s1/2) L3M2,3M2,3 Auger spectrum after electron impact excitation. Within a two-step model we are able to determine all dynamic parameters for the primary excitation process, i.e. alignment and orientation, as well as angular distribution and spin polarization parameters describing the Auger decay dynamics. At present, no experimental alignment or orientation data are available. We hope that our calculation may stimulate related experiments.
