Abstract:
Der Aufsatz diskutiert den Film "Chile – La memoria obstinada" (Chile – Widerspenstige Erinnerungen) von Patricio Guzmán und "Calle Santa Fe" (Calle Santa Fe – Erinnerung an eine revolutionäre Zeit) von Carmen Castillo. In beiden Filmen dokumentieren die chilenischen FilmemacherInnen ihre Rückkehr aus dem Exil nach Chile. Mit den Mitteln des Films untersuchen sie die Spuren der Vergangenheit im Chile nach der Diktatur und leisten einen Beitrag zur Erarbeitung einer Geschichte des sozialen Aufbruchs in der Zeit der Unidad Popular, Anfang der 1970er Jahre, des Militärputsches von 1973 und der folgenden Militärdiktatur. Anhand einer dichten Beschreibung von zentralen Sequenzen beider Filme arbeitet der Aufsatz die unterschiedlichen Positionierungen und damit verbundenen Fragestellungen und Methoden der beiden RegisseurInnen heraus. In der Auseinandersetzung mit den beiden Filmen werden auch grundsätzliche Fragen der Geschichtsforschung im Medium Film diskutiert.
Abstract:
The article discusses two Chilenean films: "Chile – La memoria obstinada" (Chile – the Obstinate Memory) from Patricio Guzmán and "Calle Santa Fe" from Carmen Castillo. Both filmmakers take their personal history and return to Chile from their European exile as departing point for a filmic investigation into the post-dictatorial Chile. With the audio-visual means that film provides they both investigate into the traces of Chile's dictatorial history in the present society and take part in the construction of a history of Chile's social advancements in the early 1970ies under the Unidad Popular government of Salvador Allende, the military coup and the following years of dictatorship and repression. With a thick description of central sequences of both films the article discusses the different positions and though different questions and methods used by both directors. Guzmán filmed in the mid 1990ies one year before former dictator Pinochet was detained for crimes against humanity in London. He intervenes with images and sounds of the past into the Chilean reality in order to provoke memories and controversies. He is in search of what is left from the spirit of the early seventies and what might be able to transmit this spirit to the current young generation. Castillo films a decade later and focuses more on one particular group, the MIR (movement of the revolutionary left), and on the continuity of social struggle that started long before the Unidad Popular government and continued after the military coup and resisted the dictatorship's repression. She encounters with young people that take the activists from the 70ies as their role models and discusses the different meanings of places and memories for her generation and the young one. The article discusses as well in a more general way the specific modes of investigation that audio-visual medium can provide to historic research.

El articulo discute dos películas de dos cineastas Chilenas: "Chile – la memoria obstinada" de Patricio Guzmán y "Calle Santa Fe" de Carmen Castillo. Ambos cineastas basen su película en su involucración personal en la movida de avances sociales durante el gobierno de la Unidad Popular con el presidente Salvador Allende y toman como punto de partida su regreso a Chile desde el exilio europeo. El articulo analisa con una descripcion densa de secuencias claves de las dos películas como investigan con medidas audio-visuales las huellas del pasado en la sociedad chilena pos-dictatorial y como contribuyen a la construcción de una historia del Chile de la Unidad Popular y de la dictadura militar. Guzmán filmó un año antes de que el ex-dictador Pinochet fue detenida en Londres. Con viejas imagenes y sonidos intenta de provocar en Chile memorias y controversias que revelan las huellas de la dictadura y demuestran experiencias que se puede transmitir a una nueva generación. Castillo filmó una decada después y enfoca a un lado en la historia del MIR (movimiento de la izquierda revolucionaria) y sobre todo en la continuidad de la lucha social, que empezó mucho antes de la presedencia de Allende y continuó después del golpe militar resistiendo a la represión. Ella se encuentra con jovenes que toman los revolucionarios de los años 70 como ejemplos y discute la diferente significancia que tienen los lugares del pasado como p.e. la casa en que Castillo fue detenido y vivió con su compañero y lider Mirista Miguel Enriquez. El articulo también discute más generalizada los modos específicamente audio-visual con las que el cine puede aportar a la investigación y construcción scientífica de la historia.
