We discuss possible sites for the origin of TeV emission observed from the radiogalaxy M87 and point out that current evidence favour an origin on small (sub-parsec) scales. We show that M87 may represent an interesting new physics case where particle acceleration and TeV production takes place close to the supermassive black hole horizon, probing conditions prevalent in the inner accretion flow.
