 Abstract: The relativistic quantum dynamics of highly accelerated hydrogenic ions is investigated in the presence of a super intense counter-propagating laser pulse. Due to the large Doppler blue shift, collisions between electron and ionic core are shown to be possible in the MeV regime. This renders nuclear reactions feasible in the near future with single laser-driven ions.
