Abstract
Mixed CoNiAl spinels were prepared by the zeolite precursor route using Co+Ni exchanged zeolites as starting materials. The spinel phases were obtained by calcination of the exchanged zeolites at high temperatures. Once prepared the spinel materials show no significant structural changes upon heating, and no migration of Co2+ and Ni2+ from one crystallographic site to the next one is observed, in strong contrast to spinel materials obtained by conventional methods. Thus, the spinel crystallites obtained from the zeolite precursors appear to be close to the thermodynamically favored equilibrium composition and structure immediately after their formation.
