Abstract
412 species of aquatic insects have been recorded from the emergence-trap at the Breitenbach (Hassia/Fed. Rep. Ger.), 360 of them are Diptera. Total biomass of adults and species composition are presented for the years 1969-1973. There are extreme changes in abundance from year to year. These changes depend on factors such as temperature, moss-vegetation, ecological specialisation of species and the assemblance of the stream-bottom by different substrate-patterns.
