Abstract
Summary Metabolic activities of Daphnia pulex DE GEER in arctic and central european seasonal ponds have been compared. Heart rate was taken as a measure of metabolic activity. Under similar temperature and physiological conditions arctic females were a little slower than those of temperate regions. So there is no adaptive acceleration of metabolism to latitude in this species.
