要旨

The present paper summarises ecological data on the Pantanal Mato Grossense - upper Paraguay river basin (Brazil). In addition, it presents general information on land water use in the headwaters of the Pantanal. Recommendations and strategies for sustainable river management and protection of the region are discussed, in view of the need to increase the ecological data base, to assess the present model of land and water use and to empower the local communities to participate
