Abstract
Classically, the approach to a singularity in general relativity is very complicated, as illustrated by the chaotic Bianchi IX model. Quantum gravity effects can potentially change the behavior and lead to a simpler initial state. This is verified here for quantum geometry, using methods of loop quantum cosmology. The chaotic behavior then stops once quantum effects become important, which leads to consistency with a discrete structure of space.
