要旨
The influence of the amount of submicron ammonium sulfate ((NH4)(2)SO4) particles on the corrosion mechanism of copper has been investigated at 93% relative humidity (RH) and room temperature with surface analytical methods. Posnjakite (Cu-4(OH)(6)SO4 H2O) is the first corrosion product identified. For particle deposits up to 0.3mg/cm(2) (NH4)(2)SO4, the posnjakite decomposes and Cu2O is formed, With 13mg/cm(2) (NH4)(2)SO4, conversion of posnjakite to brochantite (Cu-4(OH)(6)SO4) or antlerite (Cu-3(OH)(4)SO4) takes place instead. The reaction rate increases with decreasing amounts of particle deposits.
