Abstract
The crystal structure of Gd3Ga2 was studied by means of single-crystal methods. The structure belongs to a new structure type (space group I4/mcm, View the MathML source, View the MathML source, v = 16). Isotypic compounds are formed by neodymium, samarium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, lutetium and yttrium. The relationships of the Gd3Ga2 structure with those of other rare earth compounds are described.
