Abstract
The crystal structure of Eu3Ga5 compound has been studied by X-ray single-crystal diffractometry and belongs to the new structure type: space group Amm2, View the MathML source, View the MathML source, View the MathML source, Z = 4. The shortest interatomic distances are: Eu-Eu, 3.692 Å; Eu-Ga, 3.054 Å; Ga-Ga, 2.548 Å. The coordination numbers of the atoms are europium, 17 and 18 and gallium, 9 and 10. The structure of Eu3Ga5 has been described as a two-dimensional packing of trigonal prisms [GaEu6] and empty tetragonal pyramids [Eu5].
