Abstract
The Te-TeI4 system has been investigated by D.T.A., X-ray powder patterns and vapour pressure measurements. It is a binary peritectic system with α-TeI as the only intermediate phase. α-TeI exhibits a room temperature resistivity of about 108 Ωcm and has a band gap of about 1.0 eV. It melts peritectically at 185 °C. The eutectic point is at 178 °C and at about 58 at.% I.
