Abstract
The continual place-changing of iron atoms in the mixed crystal phases of composition Li4Fe1.04N2, during which the slightly corrigated Li2N layers are maintained, leads in a topotactic reaction to the formation of Li4[FeN2]. This presumably metastable nitridoferrate(II) is one of the lesser known nitridoferrates. Li4[FeN2] crystallizes in a defect variant of the Li3N structure (Li2Fe0.5-square-0.5N), in which Li2N layers are bound by linearly coordinated Fe(II) centers.
