Magneto-resistance and specific heat results indicate that UBe 13 is phenomenologically related to Ce-based Kondo lattice systems like CeCu 2Si 2. Anisotropies of the Fermi surface of UBe 13 seem to furnish an anisotropic superconducting pairing interaction. This causes the formation of two superconducting order parameters on different parts of the Fermi surface, as inferred from the observation of an additional phase transition at 0.55 K in UBe 13 below T c=0.87 K. Th-doping strongly affects the Fermi surface of UBe 13 by favoring the lower transition. A partial explanation of the unusual phase diagram of the superconducting states of U 1-xTh xBe 13 is proposed.
