Abstract
For the "214" cuprates, La2CuO4+delta, La2-xMxCuO4 (M = Sr, Ba) and Nd1.85Ce0.15CuO3.998, thermal expansion measurements reveal lattice instabilities at T1 = 31K and T2 = 36K. T2 coincides with T(c)max found upon 15 at% Sr doping. For YBa2Cu3O6.5 (T(c) = 49K) a lattice instability occurs at T = 90K, again close to T(c)max.
