Abstract
Variational methods are among the most successful approaches for computing high-quality optical ow. However, there are still many ways to improve. In this thesis we fist provide a general overview of the main ideas of existing approaches by the example of the complementary optical ow method of Zimmer et al. [19]. This serves us as a starting point for introducing the concept of automatic local selection of the most suitable constancy assumption on image features, which allows to further improve the quality of optical ow estimation. As a main contribution, we provide the variational formulation, that directly leads to the proposed behavior. The derived model is then analysed and evaluated in the series of experiments.
