要旨
The microstructure in photonic crystal fibre permits low-loss guidance of light both in solid material and in vacuum. The field profiles and group velocity dispersion of the guided modes can be engineered over wide ranges of parameters. The resulting improved control over light-matter interactions is permitting studies of, for example, intense nonlinear phonon-photon interactions, efficient generation of broad-band supercontinuum light, precisely controlled propulsion and guidance of small particles, plasmonic effects in metallic nanowire arrays, and hugely enhanced nonlinear gas-laser interactions.
