Abstract
The dependence of the BOLD effect as measured by Echo Planar Imaging (EPI) sequences and balanced Steady State Free Precession (bSSFP) sequences on the orientation of the cortical vasculature to the main magnetic field B0 is examined in this study at 9.4 Tesla. The BOLD effect is generated in one volunteer subject using a breath-hold experiment, and analyzed for a relationship with the orientation of the cortex to B0 (and therefore cortical vasculature) within five segmented cortical layers.
