Abstract
The state-of-the-art regarding the important role that endogenous opioid peptides and their respective receptors play in the regulation of a variety of physiological and behavioral functions under normal and stressful conditions is presented. This chapter covers the biology, pharmacology, and molecular biology of opioids, as well as the implication of opioids in stress-related pathology.
