Abstract
He I and He II photoemission spectra of bromine on Au(100) show Br induced features within the d-band region of Au. From a comparison with the data obtained on Pt (111) it is suggested that the Br induced resonance at 5 eV below EF is associated with bonding Br 4p derived states. The structure introduced between the upper d band edge and the Fermi level on Au(100) presumably contains some contribution of filled antibonding states of Br 4p character. The Br induced photoemission features are investigated as a function of surface coverage and different coverage dependences are found for the various components of the Br induced structure. Pronounced changes in the bromine spectra are observed for He I and He II excitation.
