Abstract

La recherche confirme ce que les détenus ne cessent de répéter : un emploi stable à la sortie est un facteur important dans la prévention de la récidive. Or, seuls 25 % des sortants réussissent à trouver une activité professionnelle régulière dans les douze mois après la sortie. Cet article étudie l'apport, potentiel et actuel, du travail pénitentiaire à la réinsertion professionnelle des personnes détenues. Il s'intéresse aux difficultés qui s'opposent à des résultats plus prometteurs et aux solutions proposées.

Research confirms what inmates have been saying all along: having a steady job on leaving prison is an important factor to reduce recidivism. Yet only a small number of inmates, at the most 25 %, are able to find regular employment within the first twelve months of leaving prison. This article looks at the contribution, potential and real, of prison labour to improve the chances of ex-inmates on the labour market. It examines both the difficulties that stand in the way of more promising results and the solutions that have been proposed.
