Zusammenfassung
It has been previously suggested that there is a decrease in the water diffusion coefficient during neuronal activation and that diffusion MRI can reveal these changes. Furthermore, such changes have been attributed to transient cell swelling, caused either by a shrinking of the extracellular space or by some intracellular neuronal process which precedes any vascular response. Evidence for these processes can be investigated via high resolution diffusion sensitized functional magnetic resonance imaging. Here in this work, we use the cat visual cortex model at 9.4 Tesla to investigate diffusion weighted fMRI signal changes using very high b-values.
