Abstract
Functional alterations in the auditory midbrain were characteri
zed in Fgf17 knockout mice usi
ng Manganese-enhanced MRI (MEMRI).
Although previous
studies have shown Fgf17 to be a growth
factor regulating mid-hindbrain development,
only anatomical alterations of the midbrai
n and cerebellum have
been demonstrated in the mutant
mice. Using MEMRI, we were able to analyze
the reduction in the active regions as well as tonot
opic reorganization in the
auditory midbrain of Fgf17 mutant mice. These results enabled
us to characterize the concealed
functional pathology in a genetically engineered mouse models with a neurological phenotype.
