Abstract
Utilizing double-tuned TEM volume coils provides excellent SNR at high fields. Unfortunately, due to the interaction between the coil elements corresponding to the two different nuclei (resonating at different frequencies), the separation between the 1H TEM resonance modes decreases. This results in mixing of the modes, altering the B1 homogeneity and inducing shading artifacts in the images. To overcome this problem we report a novel 1H/31P double-tuned hybrid TEM/ birdcage coil for 4T. The design preserves sensitivity for both nuclei while increasing the mode separation for 1H channel.
