Zusammenfassung
In an fMRI study of 7 professional musicians, compared to 7
non-musicians, the response to an acoustic temporal mismatch parad
img was examined. In
both groups, a significant mismatch response was observed in the ri
ght planum temporale which increased monotonically with incr
easing deviance from the
standard temporal stimulus pa
ttern. A significant group difference between musici
ans and non-musicians was found in the left an
terior hippocampus, where
only the musicans, but not the non-musicians showed a significant mi
smatch response. This can be
interpreted as an indication o
f neuroplasticity in response
to extensive musical training.
