Abstract
By means of a simple one-dimensional model some basic features of the spreading of cooling water are discussed. Based on the idea of equilibrium temperature, a numerical technique for the simulation of diffusion and cooling processes is presented. The technique is applied to a two-dimensional time-dependent model of the tide in the lower river Elbe. The measurements at the outlet of an existing nuclear power plant (Stade) are reproduced quantitatively. © 1978.
