Abstract
TEM volume coils have been shown to have superior SNR compared to Bird Cage (BC) coil at high frequencies (>100 MHz) due to lower radiation loss and improved current distribution. However, TEM resonators require more careful tuning than a standard BC coil. Specifically, the splitting between modes in the TEM coil are substantially smaller that of BC coil making the B1 more susceptible to sample distortion. To optimize TEM coils on the bench we have developed a modified perturbation method to map magnetic and electric fields and visualize current flow in each coil element in real time.
