Abstract
The macrobicyclic compound 1, a model for thiamine pyrophosphate‐dependent enzymes , exhibits extremely high catalytic activity in the benzoin condensation. This effect can be ascribed to the cavity in 1 , which is large enough to complex two benzaldehyde molecules.
