Abstract
The manifestation of radiation damage in the diffraction patterns of small crystals is discussed. The Wilson method, well known in X-ray crystallography, is also well suited for the problems in electron crystallography. Association of inner-shell excitations caused by electron energy losses with data from desorption experiments on surfaces leads to new insights (Auger cascades). Dynamical features must be considered for a better understanding of radiation damage.
