Abstract
Bands 1 and 2, the subunits of the spectrin complex of the human erythrocyte membrane, were injected into the subphase of phospholipid monolayers at the airwater interface, and the changes Δπ in monolayer surface pressure induced by the proteins were measured. It was found that ΔΠ is distinctly higher for band 2 than for band 1 with negatively charged lipids but of similar magnitude with those not bearing electrical net charge.
