Abstract
An experimental method is described for the simultaneous determination of rate constants of diffusion controlled first order chemical reactions occuring inside catalytically active membranes and the diffusion coefficients of the substrates inside these membranes. Two different experiments have to be carried out with the same membrane. In the first experiment both sides of the membrane are in contact with the solution of substrate. In the second experiment only one side is exposed to the substrate solution. With this method the rate constant of hydrolysis of sucrose catalyzed by H+ ions inside cation exchange membranes of different thickness is determinated.
