Abstract
To widen the application of wrought magnesium (Mg) alloy sheets as an alternative solution for weight reduction in automotive vehicle construction, a rolled Mg-lZn-0.1Nd-0.2Ca (wt.) alloy sheet was chosen in this current study. The effect of diluted Rare Earth (RE) on precipitation behavior, microstructure evolution and texture modification of Mg alloy was investigated after different heat treatments and hot rolling. The precipitations were studied by using EPMA (electron probe micro-analyzer). The results reveal that dynamic recrystallization of the rolled alloy was suppressed by the precipitates. Meanwhile, the strong basal texture was avoided through a modified basal with a distinctly broader angular distribution. Copyright © 2019 ASM International® All rights reserved.
