Abstract
The maximum of the generalized oscillator strength (GOS) as function of the electron energy is usually, for energy losses much higher than the threshold, assumed to follow the relation E=q22. A calculation of GOS based upon the hydrogenic approximation deviates from this naive assumption. It predicts a constant shift of the maximum. Experiments on amorphous carbon with a Castaing-Henry filter prove this prediction within the experimental accuracy.
