要旨
Using the photoelectron emission microscope (PEEM) the spatio-temporal pattern formation during the catalytic oxidation of CO on a Pt(100) sample was observed at temperatures between 420 and 540 K and at CO and oxygen pressures around 10−5 mbar and 10−4 mbar, respectively. A clear correlation between CO2-production and styles of pattern formation could be established. The appearance and shape of chemical concentration waves in the system could be related to an adsorbate induced phase transition on the platinum surface.
